Last year, I was adopted by two wonderful humans who were able to look past my gray fur and age to see the spunky and loyal addition to their family I could be. Unfortunately, not every abused or abandoned cat in a shelter has that chance: breeders and mills rob them of a second chance at life. Please— if you’re interested in getting a new addition to your family — Adopt.
Boy, the last two weeks with this little guy have been a battle! He is lucky, because I happen to find him adorable. If I didn’t, who KNOWS where he’d be right now!
Earlier this month, on the 12th, Sammy went in for the ‘big snip’ (yes, boys, THE SNIP,) and has had an awful healing process. The poor thing started urinating blood and mucus, and had to be rushed to an emergency vet on Sunday. He ended up having a bladder infection and urinary tract infection! So needless to say, he is on antibiotics, and has had anti-inflammatory injections… the sport doesn’t feel too good. Sammy had a post emergency follow up appointment today— found out that he is still running a fever and still at risk for developing bladder crystals.
His vet put him on a new diet. He’s on C/D Science Diet with Cranberry and Ammonium Chloride supplements. Hopefully that will take his urine PH level down to at least 6.5 from 8. He is currently on penicillin for his infection.
He is currently associating drinking water with the nasty feelings he’s having right now, so he is not drinking readily. I have been syringing him about 15mL of water every hour or so. What a struggle for both of us!
I can’t wait for this little guy to feel better :(
